What Is Forex? Why It Is One of the Hardest Professions in the World

“What is Forex?”

“Why is Forex considered one of the hardest careers in the world?”
“Is Forex really that difficult?”
“Can anyone join this market?”

These are the questions almost every beginner searches on Google when first stepping into the Forex world.

From my personal perspective, from a mindset that always tries to simplify problems, here is a clear and realistic explanation.

What Is Forex?

Forex is the global foreign exchange market where currencies are bought and sold. Its full name is the Foreign Exchange Market, also known as:

  • Forex
  • FX
  • The Interbank Currency Market
  • The Cash or Spot Market

In the simplest terms, this is the place where currencies of different nations are constantly exchanged. Transactions occur 24 hours per day, 5 days per week (excluding weekends and major holidays).

Forex can be considered a zero-sum game:
One trader's profit is another trader’s loss.

Example:
If you sell USD and someone buys it, then if USD price drops, you profit while the buyer takes the loss.

What Can You Trade in Forex?

Although we call it the Forex market, it includes a wide variety of tradable instruments, such as:

Currency Pairs:

Examples include:

  • EUR/USD
  • GBP/USD
  • AUD/USD
  • USD/CAD
  • USD/CHF
  • NZD/USD
  • …and many more

Other Common Assets on Forex Platforms:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Oil
  • Stock indices
  • Stock CFDs
  • Commodity futures (coffee, agricultural products, etc.)

Therefore, learning to trade Forex is similar to learning how to trade gold, stocks, commodities, and many other markets.

On this blog, our primary approach is Technical Analysis.
This means we learn one methodology that can be applied across multiple markets, not just Forex.

So when we talk about Forex, we can also extend that understanding to other similar financial markets.

Why Is Forex One of the Hardest Jobs in the World?

Yes – Forex truly IS one of the most difficult professions. If you doubt that, try this challenge:

Open a DEMO account and try to trade profitably for six consecutive months.

Why six months?

Because it helps eliminate “luck,” gambling, and random positive results. Many people who misunderstand Forex see it as a form of gambling or a casino—but that is only the illusion seen from the outside.

Long-term success requires skill, not luck.

If Forex Is So Hard, Why Do So Many People Jump In?

The answer is simple:

Because the reward is enormous.

In life:

  • Every profession has a price.
  • The harder the job, the greater the reward.
  • Easy jobs rarely pay big, because if everyone can do it, the reward naturally becomes small.

Forex offers high earning potential. That is the very reason it attracts millions of people every year.

Can You Win in Forex?

Absolutely.

There are many truly successful traders in the world—some even legendary. You can discover their names with just a few clicks on Google.

But what most people never see is the long process behind success:

  • Endless study
  • Painful trial and error
  • Failures
  • Growth through experience
  • Persistence through hardship

No one becomes successful in Forex by accident.

Reward only comes after long, difficult practice.

How Much Can You Earn in Forex?

The short answer:

There is no limit.

Forex can feel like a gold mine—but only if you have:

  • Enough ability
  • Enough discipline
  • Enough patience
  • The resilience to stay in the game long term

Statistics show that:

  • Only around 5% of traders succeed
  • 95% remain on the losing side

If seeing this number still doesn’t scare you…

…then welcome.
We will continue this journey together, step by step, through the upcoming articles on this blog.
